Legal Aid Line is an online and toll-free telephone application process for Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO).
Legal Aid Line staff provide FREE legal information, advice, and referrals to eligible low-income residents of northwest and west central Ohio. All callers are screened for income eligibility before receiving services. Client services are provided by telephone. If ongoing legal representation is needed, eligible callers may be referred to another legal services office or volunteer attorney program. Spanish speaking staff and assistance for the hearing and visually impaired are available. Interpreters for other languages are available on an as-needed basis.
Legal Aid Line provides advice in civil law matters such as:- Bankruptcy;
- Clearing a criminal record;
- Consumer fraud, debt relief, contract disputes, car repossession, credit card lawsuits, and home repair scams;
- Domestic violence and stalking, including protection orders;
- Education issues involving discrimination, student enrollment or suspension, and special services;
- Employment problems and unemployment benefits;
- Family Law, including divorce and child support;
- Landlord/tenant disputes, including eviction and repair issues;
- Foreclosure and predatory lending matters;
- Health care access, including Medicare;
- Predatory lending;
- Public benefits, including Social Security/SSI, Medicaid; and
- Welfare and food assistance.

You must have a civil legal problem. Our attorneys and advocates cannot help with criminal problems, including traffic tickets. If you are unsure if you have a civil or criminal problem, call anyway.
 Legal Aid Line of Western Ohio, Inc., Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. do not charge for services. If Legal Aid Line, ABLE, or LAWO cannot help you with your problem, we may be able to refer you to an agency that may be more suited to your needs. If you have a problem that is not listed on our services page, please call us anyway; we may have a service that can help you or know of just the right program or private attorney that may be able to assist with your problem.
